With so many optional toddler toys for 2 year olds available, looking for those that will allow open-ended play, in my opinion, is the best option.
For a two-year-old, giving a toy that is fun and that will keep them excited about sorting, shapes, colors, and playing with friends is something that will surely help them in their development.
This will indeed enhance their speech & language, fine & gross motor skills, problem-solving, and more.
I purposely did not focus on toys that will help academically but more to encourage them to start speaking through open-ended play.
I have noticed that my son playing with his blocks have gotten so many more uses from them than just building.
He used them to learn color recognition, counting, shapes, problems solving, and now prepositions.
Before we started seeing a speech therapist, the blocks are what encouraged him to start forming words.
Before then he didn’t speak five words. He started with recognizing the color red, and then he eventually started practice saying the color red over and over again until it was very clear what he was saying.
Eventually, he learned all the color in his block set and began saying all of them.
His speech and language development have increased much more from playing with his blocks than from any of his toys that require batteries.
And he literally chooses to play with his blocks more on a daily basis than his light up toys.
Speech and Language & Development
Some ways to help stimulate your toddler’s speech is by speaking clearly and always talk to him/her about what you are doing.
Talk about animals, use gestures like pointing or waving.

Bath Toys
I really wanted to include a section for bathtime simply because I don’t think a child can never have too many bath toys. My son really enjoys his bathtime and I am always on the lookout for toys that are safe and fun. Always use care with all bath toys by rinsing with warm water, making sure all water is drained completely out of the toys and allowing them to air dry.
Has a magnetic fishing rod with 3 underwater bobbing characters. Suitable for 2 years and older, these characters are made air-tight helping to limit mold and mildew. This toy helps to develop hand-eye coordination and teaches cause and effect.

This toy has lots of open-ended possibilities allowing your toddler to build water runs, waterfalls, ball runs, and more during bathtime. The blocks are made from Mildew and Bacteria resistant EVA foam and contain no Phthalates.
UPDATE: At the time of writing this I didn’t realize that there are some small parts like the ball that comes with it, never leave a child unattended in the tub and be mindful that this can become a choking hazard.
Choosing a form of learning toy that will engage your child’s ability to learn language skills through play has been the goal of this post.
