How To Start A Business With Starting A Blog
There are so many ways to make money online without needing your own website, however, if you want a solid business with longevity you will need to build an online presence.
Creating a website is much easier and simpler than you can ever imagine.
With so much information out there complication starts to settle in and who could blame you for the confusion.
My goal is to help you understand the basics of starting a blog today in the simplest breakdown of a creating a website.
No tech experience required. 🙂
There are a gazillion blogs out there, including this one, and frankly, blogs are perhaps the easiest and less complicated way you can begin your online business.
There are three main key elements you need in order for your blog to function.
These three elements are the platform, domain, and web host.  Most blogs are just content, but there are also photo blogs and video blogs, it simply depends on what will suit you best.
Some websites will have a combination of video, content, photo, or perhaps all three.
The Platform:
As I have mentioned before, if you are setting up a blog you will need a blogging platform, a web host, and a domain.
A blogging platform is a computer software program that allows you to write posts and update your website.
Now the great thing is there are some really good computer software programs that will allow you to set your blog up absolutely free!
It really depends on what best suits you. Perhaps the some of the most popular are; Blogger.com, WordPress.com, and WordPress.org.Â
As a newbie blogger, you want to choose a blogging platform that is super easy to set up and one that either does not require any coding or very little coding at all.
You will also want to make sure that whichever platform you choose, that platform will allow you to make money from it. Lastly, you want to have the flexibility to change the look and update your site as it
If you start off with the wrong platform it could make it difficult to change it in the future.
Depending if you want your blog self-hosted, or non-self-hosted will help in determining which platform to use. You should be clear on if blogging will just be a hobby or business for you.
Essentially this will be an avenue of connecting with other people on the web with your same likes and interest, just keep in mind if this will be for profit or not for profit.
If you decide to choose a hosted platform, make sure to do your research and know their guidelines, simply because if you do anything to violate the terms and services of their free hosting service, your site can be removed.
If however, this is a business for you and a long term business at that, it should be a platform that will allow you freedom to market and build your business in the best way possible, and for this, my suggestion would be WordPress.ORG.
The Host:
Now since you will be using a self-hosted platform for your business and I am assuming this IS for profit, you will need to signup with a web hosting service provider.
The web host is sort of like the virtual file cabinet that stores your blog. Web hosting allows you to post your blog onto the internet.
The web hosting service is the company that provides the technology for your blog or blog’s web pages to be viewed on the internet. Simply put, it connects other internet users to your website from anywhere around the world.
There are really great hosting providers out there that are willing to host your blog.
How do you find a web hosting company with the features support, and price that serves your needs?
Remember the importance of a website running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week without constant technical interruptions is very important to consider when selecting a hosting provider.
Do your research, and know which companies are not just available and cheap, but reliable enough to trust with keeping your website up and running.
The one that I use is Bluehost, they have very fast servers, also the Mojo Marketplace 1-Click Installs, which makes installing your WordPress website quick and very easy.
They have outstanding support for any type of issues regarding their system. I have used their support line via phone and also chat many times, and the service has always been excellent!
BlueHost is the number one recommended web hosting provider for WordPress.org users. Plus there is a special offer for WordPress users which includes a free domain, free SSL Certificate, and 1-Click WordPress install, starting as low as $3.95 per month.
Also as a side note, if you shop online and love receiving cash back, Ebates is offering $10 cash back for accessing the signup through your login. If you are not familiar with Ebates shame on you! If you shop online and love saving online, why not make some money doing it. It is easy-peasy cash back made simple. Before you decide to log into your favorite online retailer, log into your Ebates account, find the store, and click the link which will take you to the online retailer where you do the normal shopping. Ebates will automatically provide a tracking code to track your purchase. Then presto cash back! Go ahead and check it out it’s free to sign up. 😉
So back to the three basic elements of starting a blog fast.
THE DOMAIN:
The domain is the online address of your blog and usually ends in a dot com. There are other domain extensions like .net, .biz, .org, .info,… etc, BUT in general, most people when they are thinking of a web address or remembering a web address, COM is first to come to mind.
There are several companies out there to purchase a domain through but the beauty of signing up with Bluehost is you can set it up all in one place.
Make sure the name you choose is easy for people to remember, spell, and is relevant to the type of blog you have.
At this point, you have a general idea of what you need to have a functioning blog, from what platform you will be using, the host provider, to the domain name you have chosen.
There should not be any confusion you may have about starting a blog today.
