It has been a full week since starting the five-day weekly cleaning challenge, and I have to say that it was tough but I made it through. It was actually kind of exciting and I think I will give myself more challenges in the future.
One valuable lesson this challenge has taught me is the importance of always having a game plan of how you are going to take action every day.
I wrote down my game plan for the week in my planner and how I would execute and gave myself words of encouragement on each day to keep me motivated.
So a recap as to why I decided to do this challenge. I have been really slacking on my cleaning and needed to make a change and get my butt back into gear.
Everything was starting to feel like a struggle and I felt more stressed than a little, less energy to do fun crafts with my son, and depleted energy to cook.
The challenge is very simple not complicated and easily duplicatable every week.
I don’t like cleaning but I know it has to get done so I chose to break down an area of the house per day to clean rather than spending one whole day to clean the entire house.
THIS IS HOW I WILL BREAK EACH DAY DOWN:
MONDAY
This is everything that has a top. Countertops, stovetops, bathroom countertops, nightstand, and also my office desk.
Like I said everything that has a top I will declutter and clean.
This is great because over the course of an entire week this is where most of the cluttering can happen.
TUESDAY
This day will be all about bathroom cleaning. Since I’ve already cleaned the bathroom countertops on Monday, today I will be focusing on cleaning the toilet and tub.
WEDNESDAY
Wash all the clothes. I love washing clothes but I hate folding them. It’s the same way I feel about dishes. I don’t have a problem washing them, I just hate actually putting them up once they are dry.
THURSDAY
Clean the floors in the house. Vacuum everywhere and also mop the kitchen and the bathroom. This will be an ideal time to check the baseboards and do a light sweep on them or actual clean.
FRIDAY
Yay I’m at the end of the week and here I will be doing dusting, wiping down appliances, and whatever else I feel will need attention. Also if you stay consistent with this cleaning schedule it will cut the cleaning time to only a few minutes per day.
The take away from this past weekly cleaning challenge was the importance of staying consistent.
Even though this was a cleaning challenge, this same approach can be applied to other areas of your life.
I felt as though throughout the week I was able to make better decisions and I didn’t feel so indecisive and I had more energy.
By day three, I still had a good amount of energy to cook and felt a little more creative in the kitchen.
Since the first week went so well, I am going to continue this challenge again next week just to make sure it sticks and this is my weekly routine.
Doing this for two weeks I believe will make it a good habit.
